While Indian e-commerce is growing at a stellar rate, initiatives such as Digital India, Skill India, Startup India and Make in India are also contributing to the growth of the online trade.
Indian e-commerce is also flourishing on the back of higher internet penetration, increasing quality of internet in the country, advancements in payments and computing on mobility platforms, changing consumer behavior and shopping patterns and the availability of products priced at lower rates on e-commerce platforms. “E-commerce is probably creating the biggest revolution in the retail industry, and this trend will continue in the years to come,” the CARE Ratings report said.
Early this year, the government had amended FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) policy in e-commerce for all the entities operating as e-commerce marketplace. Effective from February 1, 2019, the policy changes provide clarity and strengthen the regulatory framework governing FDI in e-commerce marketplace entities in India and also sought to provide a level playing field among online and offline traders. This came in the light of traditional retailers accusing e-commerce entities of distorting market place by predatory pricing and unfair trade practices. It was expected that the tightened norms will considerably affect e-commerce business in India.
In India, the share of electronics and accessories sales is the highest on e-commerce platforms with over 40% sales happening in these two categories. Lifestyle and apparel is another leading category with over 25% sales. Home & Living account for 5%, food and grocery for 2-3% and other category sales are about 20-30%, according to the report. Currently, the Indian e-commerce landscape is dominated by players such as Jeff Bezos’ Amazon and Walmart acquired Flipkart.

Under the PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana, any farmer between 18-40 years can register himself for the pension scheme and on completion of 20 years, he or she will get a monthly pension of Rs 3000.
The Modi government on Friday launched the PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana, a pension scheme for small and marginal farmers of the country.
The scheme is aimed at 120 million cultivators who are so-called marginal farmers as they mostly own less than 2 hectares of land.
Under the scheme, any eligible farmer between 18-40 years can register himself for the pension scheme and on completion of 20 years, he or she will get a monthly pension of Rs 3000.
As in any insurance or pension product, monthly premiums will depend on age. The central government will be a co-contributor and pay one half of the premium value.
“Farmers don’t often have sufficient savings, especially poor cultivators. This scheme is aimed at providing a measure of social security,” agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar told reporters while launching the scheme.
Under the scheme, a farmer who is 18 years, the entry level age, will have to pay a monthly premium of Rs 55, while a farmer aged 40 will have to pay Rs 200.
The pension fund will be maintained by the Life Insurance Corporation of India and farmers can enroll themselves by visiting their nearest common service centres, an official said.
Schoolgirls from across the state sent rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday as a gesture of protection and well-being.
More than 700 girls from Navyug Group of Education at Morbi had sent the sacred thread signifying the bond between a brother and a sister, ‘rakhi’ to PM Modi. In addition to this, the girls also wished him good health and long life. Along with the self-made rakhis, the girls have also sent handwritten letters or postcards to the Prime Minister.
“In wake of strong decisions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi one after the other, the students requested me to send a rakhi to Modiji, whishing for his long life so that he can continue to take such decisions even further,” said College President, Kanjiya Pidi. “My chest swelled with pride after hearing this and I was very happy with the decision,” added Pidi.
“By deciding scrap Article 370 and 35-A. Modi has fulfilled Sardar Patel’s dream of united India. Therefore, on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, we have sent a rakhi to Modiji,” said Nandini Patel, a student of the college. “He has crowned India by including Kashmir,” added Nandini.
This has come after the historic decision taken by the PM Modi led present BJP government to abrogate article 370 and 35A from the Constitution of India.
