TATWAMASI :

All devotees who come to Sabarimala read the statement “TAT TWAM ASI” and understand it peripherally as “That Thou art”, meaning “That is you” or God and me are the same.

What does this statement truly mean?

Where did it come from?

Our Rishis have churned 4 Mahavakyas which expresses the essence of Spirituality and appears in the four Vedas.

1. PRAJNANAM BRAHMA (Aithareya Upanishad/ Rig Veda),

2. AHAM BRAHMASMI(Brihadaranyaka Upanishad/ Yajur Veda),

3. TATWAMASI (Chandogya Upanishad/ Sama Veda) and

4. AYAM ATHMA BRAHMA (Mandukya Upanishad/ Atharva Veda).

TATWAMASI is described in the 16 sub chapters of Chapter 6 in Chandogya Upanishad.

The entire description happens as a conversation between Uddalaka and his son Svetaketu.

We should all try to read and understand this conversation to understand what the Hindu concept ( Sanatana Dharmam  ) of God is.

It will also give a clear idea on Iswara/ Jagat/Jeevan or God/ Nature/ Self. We will look into it later…….
