The real values in life is to recognize truth, honesty and contentment as forward looking attributes that help in overall satisfaction. Giving importance to external growth – wealth and richness – leaving behind inner development often leads to an imbalance in life devoid of overall satisfaction. Nowadays when true values of life have narrowed down, become skewed, ignored and misunderstood, a tremendous need has been felt for value education to be integrated with the school curriculum.

In recent years a tremendous need has been felt for value education to be integrated with the school curriculum. Even some forty years ago this aspect of life was a part of every growing child in India through “grandma’s tales” and by the very life style of families and communities. But with the impact of modern ways in all areas and the breakdown of the joint family system, India has witnessed a tangible erosion of its cultural strength and ethical base.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kunnumpuram | ICSE | Trivandrum |

Value-education is a fine art of moulding the consciousness of the students towards noble and fine living. Value education encompasses the traditional values of moral science and much more which quality that any society wishes to imbibe. Hence value education includes not only universal values such as truth, love, courage and faith but also socially relevant values such as self-reliance, civic consciousness, environmental awareness, patriotism and tolerance.

Our value-education classes deliberate on different aspects of our ancient culture in terms of personal, moral, spiritual, family and social values and how these can enrich life. Virtues of integrity; love for others; how to think positive; how moral values can get reinforced; belief in natural justice; good family values and how best a person can move ahead in life by focusing on core values are aptly unfolded.

While regular academic education is “conceptual understanding” aimed at economic self-reliance, value education aims at “transformation” and emotional self-reliance. Thus value education complements and completes academics, subtly guiding students to become useful and supportive members of the society.

The supplementary involvement of parents is vital for the success of this value education. Thus the unique, secular, social and ethical needs of today’s students is met, thereby enabling them to blossom into courageous, morally strong and confident citizens of tomorrow.

Chinmaya Vision Programme :-

"yatha dristi tatha sristi"  As is the vision, so the world appears to us.

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji believed that if students are encouraged regularly to think positively and are tuned to view the world as a whole, it would then make each student unfold into a gentle blossoming personality ever ready to face the challenges of life courageously and successfully. This vision of Pujya Gurudev materialized into a comprehensive educational programme called the Chinmaya Vision Programme.

The Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) is an educational programme that judiciously integrates academics (modern education system) and culture & value education (ancient Indian education system).

The Chinmaya Vision Programme is identified under four heads : -

I. Integrated Development :
This aspect helps the students to become -

1.physically fit and well groomed
2.emotionally balanced
3.intellectually alert & creative
4.spiritually awakened

II. Indian Culture :-

The students are given wide exposure to various aspects of the Indian culture through epics, puranas and stories from our rich tradition. The values thus nurtured become embedded in the minds of the students and create a holistic vision and an ennobling attitude .

III.Patriotism :-

Students learn about the glory of Bharat . They discover astonishing facts about India

1.unsung Indian patriots , scientists and sages
2.unrecognized discoveries made thousands of years ago by Indians
3.The students feel proud and stand bound by their love toward the nation.

IV.Universal Outlook :-

This aspect of CVP is based on the principle of Sanatana Dharma – Vasudeiva Kudumbakkam-(the whole world is one family).

Students are exposed to the cultures and philosophies of other nations . The positive aspects of these cultures are adopted without losing the roots of Indian culture and tradition. The students cultivate a vast vision that the whole world is one family from a young age.

V.Thus Chinmaya Vision Programme transforms our Vidyalaya into a true vidya – alaya ( temple of learning) .

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Chetpet

5.Sixteen Step Puja :-

Puja is one of the most beautiful ways to bring out the devotee within oneself and establish a relationship with Ishwara. . Puja is called kayika karma, an action involving one’s limbs. It also includes speech and mental action in the form of chanting and thinking of the Lord. The body, mind, and speech are all involved in a puja. The forms, colors, fragrances and sounds of the various items in worship arrest one’s mind and aid in invoking devotion in oneself.

Students of class 5 perform the sixteen step puja in the month of March. They come in traditional outfit and devotedly perform the sixteen step puja to their favourite God. Puja is performed in order to express their gratitude to God for all they have received in life.

6. Geetha Chanting :-

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda said , “the Bhagavad Geeta is the ‘Handbook for everyday living’ “.

The wonderful conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna at the warfront – the Bhagvad Geetha, teaches the youth of today to face the world with gusto, manliness, sublimity and honesty in making decisions without getting bogged down by daily tensions. In our school we train our students from classes 1 to 9 to chant Geetha.

Pujya Guruji, Swami Tejomayananda explains the grand vision behind this project as “Chant – Study – Know- Live“.

7. The above programmes have been greatly instrumental in :

Recognising the essential moral elements present -
1.in the literature we read
2.the history we discuss
3.the science we implement
4.the behaviours we model and reinforce
5.the relationships we develop
6.the virtues we promote every day
7.b_ethics3
Students of our school are trained in chanting slokas from their first year of entry into the school and complete all the 18 chapters by Class IX. Geeta Chanting Competition conducted by the Chinmaya Mission motivates children to learn to chant the Bhagavad Geeta and ultimately bring in this philosophy into their lives. They participate in the chanting competition every year and proudly reach higher levels of competition and win prizes.

OPINION :-

1. ALONG WITH PARENTS CARE, VIDYALAYAM-S ARE THE SARASWATI MANDIRAM-S WHERE CHILDREN GET KNOWLEDGE "HOW TO LIVE A DIVINE LIFE";

2. PRESENT DAY, PARENTS AND CHILDREN VIEW OF EDUCATION AS FOR MATERIAL GAINS, JOBS, ETC;

3. BUT THE TRUTH IS EDUCATION INSTITUTION TRAIN CHILDREN TO FACE CHALLENGES OF LIFE;

4. WE SEE TODAY EVEN A PhD HOLDER , TALK STUPID THINGS, BEHAVE FOOLISHLY;

5. AT PRESENT WE HAVE EDUCATED-ILLITERATES ALL OVER BHARATHAM;

6. EACH CHILD SHOULD GET SPIRITUAL TRAINING, THIS STARTS WHEN THE CHILD WAS IN  MOTHER WOMB, MEANS MOTHER SHOULD LIVE IN SATSANGAM WHILE PREGNANCY;

7. SO THE JOURNEY OF SPIRITUAL TRAINING IS FED FROM MOTHER TO CHILD WITH ABLE GUIDANCE OF FATHER, TILL HE BEGINS SCHOOL EDUCATION;

8. TODAY, SCHOOLS ARE SUBSTANDARD, AND TEACHERS ARE NOT UP TO DATE, SO SCHOOLS SHOULD BE SELECTED WHERE BHARATEEYA SANATANA DHARMAM PRACTICED;

9. SRI RAMAKRISHNA MISSION, CHINMAYA MISSION SCHOOLS ARE THE BEST; STILL MANY MORE SUCH AS SRI ARABINDO ASHRAM SCHOOLS ETC;

10. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, ALONG WITH EDUCATION IS NECESSARY, AND ACHIEVED IN THESE INSTITUTIONS.

The Nehru-Gandhi dynasty starts with the Mughal man named Ghiyasuddin Ghazi. He was the City Kotwal i.e. police officer of Delhi prior to the uprising of 1857, under the Mughal rule. After capturing Delhi in 1857, in the year of the mutiny, the British were slaughtering all Mughals everywhere. The British made a thorough search and killed every Mughal so that there were no future claimant to the throne of Delhi. The Hindus on the other hand were not targeted by the British unless isolated Hindus were found to be siding with the Mughals, due to past associations. Therefore, it became customary for many Mohammedans to adopt Hindu names. So, the man Ghiyasuddin Ghazi (the word means kafir-killer) adopted- a Hindu name Gangadhar Nehru and thus saved his life by the subterfuge. Ghiyasuddin Ghazi apparently used to reside on the bank of a canal (or Nehr) near the Red Fort. Thus, he adopted the name ‘Nehru’ as the family name. Through out the world, we do not find any descendant other than that of Gangadhar, having the surname Nehru. The 13th volume of the “Encyclopedia of Indian War of Independence” (ISBN:81-261-3745-9) by M.K. Singh states it elaborately. The Government of India have been hiding this fact.
