Gandhi believed a foreign educated Nehru with modern thoughts had an edge over Patel who, according to him, was orthodox in his thoughts.  2. Gandhiji feared Nehru would revolt in case he was denied PM’s post and that would give the British an excuse to delay transfer of power.  3. On the other hand, he was fully convinced of Sardar Patel’s loyalty. He knew Sardar Patel was a true patriot and would never play a spoilsport.  THE LESSON : 1. Opinion,     29/05/2018,                 1254. Sub :- A PERSON in the twilight of wakefulness needs but a slight nudge to come fully awake. A person asleep, needs a sharp knock, a shock. In the 1950's, India was a country asleep to its own potentialities, a country demoralized by foreign occupation and intimidated by years of Brahmin monopoly of the Upanishadic heritage. The guardians of the richest spiritual inheritance on earth, the Hindus, had become strangers to thc source of their own tradition-Vedanta. Veda Vyasa's and Sankara's legacy lay dusted over with fears and prejudices. Even the priest class. understood little of the knowledge hidden in the Upanishads. A culture thus slumbering needs a strong knock to come' awake. That knock came from Swami (Chinmayananda, who, along with the Rishi of the Kathopanishad, shouted to all who would listen: "Awake!
