The compelling force which necessitates the soul to think of matter again and again is what is called desire. A desire is a pressure exerted upon the soul in terms of material objects, in terms of this material world itself. The soul would like to go to the heaven of the gods, but it would not like to leave this world completely. Do we see any person in the world who is so fed up with this world that he would not like to live a long life? Even a diseased person would like to cure himself...
